Patreon, the popular platform for creators to earn directly from their fans, is set to introduce a new pricing structure that will affect all new sign-ups from August 4, 2025. Under this change, new creators will pay a 10% platform fee, up from the current 8% for the most commonly used “Pro” plan.
The new pricing structure will consolidate multiple plan options into a single “standard” plan, simplifying the creator onboarding experience. Patreon states this change is meant to reflect the platform’s evolution from a simple membership tool to a full-featured media and community platform.
“We’ve added video hosting, community chats, a native feed, free subscription tools, and more,” said Patreon in their official blog. “With more built-in value comes a more unified pricing structure.”
What’s Changing?
- New creators joining after August 4 will be automatically placed on the new 10% Standard Plan.
- Existing creators — and anyone who joins before August 4 — will retain their current plan and platform fee, which includes:
- Pro Plan: 8% fee
- Premium Plan: 12% fee (now transitioning to “Pro + Merch” at 11%)
Additionally, the platform’s Premium plan (previously 12%) will shift to an 11% fee under a new “Pro + Merch” model. Creators who opt out of merchandise offerings can stick to the standard 8% rate.
More Value for Creators?
One of the biggest upgrades comes in the form of Patreon Video. Instead of being capped at 100 hours of video for life, creators on the updated plans will now receive 100 hours of video uploads every month , a significant boost for podcasters, vloggers, and educators who rely heavily on video content.
Why It Matters
This pricing update reflects a broader movement in the creator economy, where platforms are repositioning themselves as full-service ecosystems — offering not just payment tools, but also audience management, content delivery, livestreaming, and merchandising under one roof.
While the fee hike may appear discouraging at first glance, the added value in features like video hosting, discovery, and community tools may offer creators a stronger foundation for building long-term, sustainable income.
Tip for Creators
Thinking about joining Patreon? Sign up before August 4, 2025, to lock in the lower 8% fee under the current Pro plan. After that, all new accounts will default to the 10% Standard rate : though they’ll benefit from a more streamlined and integrated experience.
Patreon’s new pricing structure is a signal of platform maturity. As it becomes an all-in-one creator hub, it’s aligning pricing with its enhanced offerings, potentially changing how creators think about where and how to launch their memberships.
