Apple has released iOS 18.5, bringing satellite connectivity features to the iPhone 13 series for the first time. This update allows users to access carrier-provided satellite services, such as T-Mobile’s Starlink-powered messaging, enhancing communication capabilities in areas without cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. Previously, these features were exclusive to iPhone 14 and newer models.
It’s important to note that while iPhone 13 users can now utilize satellite messaging through compatible carriers, Apple’s proprietary Emergency SOS via satellite remains exclusive to iPhone 14 and later models.
In addition to satellite connectivity, iOS 18.5 introduces several other features:
- Screen Time Enhancements: Parents receive notifications when their child enters the Screen Time passcode, aiding in monitoring device usage.
- Mail App Improvements: The “All Mail” view returns as a dedicated tab, and users can now easily hide contact photos for a cleaner inbox.
- Pride Harmony Wallpaper: A new wallpaper celebrating Pride Month is available.
- Apple TV App Update: Users can now use “Buy with iPhone” when purchasing content within the Apple TV app on third-party devices.
- Bug Fixes: Resolves issues such as the Apple Vision Pro app displaying a black screen upon launch.
To install iOS 18.5, navigate to Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone. Ensure your device is connected to Wi-Fi and has sufficient battery life before proceeding with the update.
